James L. Cristol, MD

Dr. James Cristol has been a staple in the Philadelphia ophthalmic community for over 30 years. He is known for his meticulous approach to complex eye conditions and his warm bedside manner.

Doctor Cristol grew up in Elkins Park, PA. He completed medical school and ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania after spending two years as a general medical officer in the US Navy. He went on to specialized training in cornea and external diseases of the eye at Temple University where he trained young eye doctors as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology for fifteen years. Dr. Cristol has held high office at the Philadelphia County Medical Society, where he continues to serve, since 1985. For much of his career he has worked in private practice in Broomall and Northeast Philadelphia. He is married with two grown sons who live in New York City.

Dr. Cristol currently sees patients on a part-time basis
at our Plymouth Meeting office.
